Vietnam is the best source of Groundnut kernel in Asean region. The government has established main growing regions in Phu Tho, Nghe An provinces, Da Nang, Binh Duong.

Peanut from the Centre and the South of Vietnam is rather good at its sight but peanut from the North is preferred because of its better quality.

Groundnut tree grown all over the country, but mainly gather northern delta provinces such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho…  Yearly output is approximately 100.000 MT.

 
There are two key crops of year: from March to May, it is harvested in southern provinces and almost quantity being grade 2 (small size); from June to Sep, farmers harvest at northern area, quality of the north is preferred with bigger size (grade 1 and super grade) as well as better quality.

Vietnam usually sources this produce to South East Asia (Indonesia, Philippine, Malaysia…) countries because of geographical distance within Asean. This is also because raw Groundnut Kernels cannot be stored in very long time.

Groundnut kernel is particularly difficult to keep in good condition for long time. With strong breatheable power, the nut is easy to get mould and to be destroyed.
 
Some important factors make groundnut kernel fail:

- High moisture when loading the goods to bags.
- Imperfect seeds are higher than allowed.
- Delivery under disadvantage whether (rain)
- Delivered containers are not favorable (DC container instead of refrigerator container to reduce cost)
- Leave the goods too long at deport in container condition… 
  
Application
 
- Whole - add at the last minute so they stay crunchy
- Crushed - usually roasted in a pan and then crushed to add to a soup
- In paste - usually roasted in a pan, crushed and reduced to a paste with a little water for brushing onto a cut of meat
- In sauce; as peanut butter - as an ingredient in Asian sauces
- In oil - stands up to high heat without its properties being altered.
